Children’s Collectives of Salinlahi Alliance for Children’s Concerns in preparation for National Conference for Children’s Rights and Welfare this October.
With the theme “Protecting our Children, Defending our Future: Strengthening People’s Response for Children’s Rights and Welfare”, the conference will discuss The Situation of Filipino Children in Crisis and other papers prepared by national, regional and provincial organizations advocating children’s rights and welfare.
Among issues to be tackled are education and health, poverty, migration, child labor, cyber-prostitution and internal trafficking, demolition and militarization and child-soldier branding by the military for children at the crossfire.
The conference aims to provide a platform for an exchange of studies and experiences on the current situation of Filipino children as well as reaffirm the people’s response and commitment for the promotion and protection of children’s rights and welfare. It is also a step in lobbying the administration of Pres. Benigno Aquino III not to abandon Filipino children who are vulnerable in the face of crisis and for his leadership to work for a brighter future of children through real economic and political changes now.
Organized by Salinlahi Alliance for Children’s Concerns with Children’s Rehabilitation Center, GABRIELA National Alliance of Women in the Philippines and KARAPATAN Alliance for the Advancement of People’s Rights, the conference will be held on October 2, 2012 at Bulwagang Tandang Sora, College of Social Work and Community Development, University of the Philippines Diliman.
