There is 1 battered woman in every 43 minutes
1 battered child in every 1 hour and 20 minutes
1 woman/child is harassed in every 4 hours
In the 500,000 prostituted women, 100,000 are minors
11 women die per day due to complication in child birth

One in three women on the planet will be raped or beaten in her lifetime.
One billion women violated is an atrocity.
One billion women dancing is a revolution.

November 25 is International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (VAW). In memory of Mirabal sisters Patria, Minerva and Teresa assassinated in 1960 on orders of Dominican ruler Rafael Trujillo as well as all women and children victims of violence, a global movement snowballed to end political, domestic and industrial violence since 1981. Eighteen years later, the United Nation has called on all nations to sincerely mark the day and act against VAW.

GABRIELA Philippines analyzes violence to women as violence to children that it has then campaigned against VAWC (Violence Against Women and Children) upholding as well the vitality of creating a world fit for holders of tomorrow.

Today, women and children gathered at Brgy. Olandes Marikina City to take part in the dance performance video for V-Day Campaign One Billion Rising led in the Philippines by New Voice Company, GABRIELA and Gabriela Women’s Party in collaboration with Association for the Rights of Children in Southeast Asia, Children’s Rehabilitation Center, Salinlahi Alliance for Children’s Concerns, Batibot Learning Center, Lunduyan and Little Deeds for Little Kids.

The performance action will culminate in February 14, 2013 with counterparts in different countries.
